ANNA LUGANINI

Associate Professor

I graduated in Biology at the University of Turin in 2004. I then worked as the scientific consultant of the Swiss company Ribovax Biotechnologies aiming at the identification and characterization of human monoclonal antibodies neutralizing the human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV). After that, I obtained a Specialization in Microbiology and Virology and a PhD in Molecular Medicine at the University of Turin. Between 2008 and 2021 I was a Researcher at the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology of the University of Turin. I became Associate Professor in 2021.

Since the early stages of my career I have focused my research activities on three main areas of interest:

A. Analysis of transcriptional factors regulating the re-activation from the latent state in HCMV infection;

B. Study of phenotypic alterations of endothelial cells infected by HCMV;

C. Analysis of the role of the HCMV genes of the US12 family in the infection of several cell types relevant for the intra- and inter-host viral spread;

D. Identification, characterization, and validation of new antiviral compounds against DNA and RNA viruses.
